BV Georges De Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa, CaliforniaOne of the two flagship cuvées, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour is a fabulous wine. A great effort in 2013, as one might expect in this vintage, this wine needs 5-6 years and seems capable of lasting 30-40 or more, given the history of the great BV Private Reserves. Inky purple to the rim, with an extraordinary nose of créme de cassis and kirsch, licorice, cedarwood, and a touch of underbrush, the wine hits the palate with a full-bodied, powerful, concentrated, dense style, has great acidity, moderately sweet tannin, and a long, long finish. This wine is young and still slightly unformed but loaded with potential and upside. Forget it for 5-6 years and drink it over the following half-century.

Napa, CaliforniaAn inky, dark garnet sits in the glass with bursting aromatics even from afar-ripe blackcurrant and blackberry with hints of Kirsch, Madagascar vanilla and cigar box. Velvety and rich on entry and through the mid, the wine offers flavors of dark plum, blueberry and notes of fennel, fresh leather and a subtle minerality. Plush, layered and dense, the wine finishes with dusty tannins and a lingering touch of black cherry.

Rutherford, CaliforniaThis is a wine that truly exemplifies both the personality of Hewitt Vineyard, however, if you can't wait to drink it, we suggest decanting to allow the flavors to evolve and reveal their great complexity and elegance. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful and dense wine, with phenomenal texture and opulence on the palate. The expansive aromas and flavors exude sumptuous blackberry, black cherry, bramble berry and cassis, layered with nuances of rum raisin, roasted espresso bean and crème Brûlée.

Pio Cesare 'Barolo' Nebbiolo
Barolo, ItalyBecause the growing season was slightly cooler compared to the two years preceding it, 2013 offers a great sense of freshness and brightness. Fruit was sourced from seven different vineyard sites (with much of it coming from Serralunga d'Alba). The tannins are tightly integrated within the firm fabric of the wine. Yet, the finish is round and supple. This Barolo offers characteristic aromas of wild berry, black truffle and cola. It is executed in a very traditional style with botte grande and a tiny part barrique to give the wine a tad more oxygen during its integration and aging process.
